TALC ethics research at the ASHA Convention

Presenting results of a stakeholdersurvey

The ASHA (American Speech Language and Hearing Association) Convention is the world’s largest Speech Language Pathology congress and was hosted in Boston this year. Dr. Hanna Ehlert presented results of a study tied to the project FramE-AI (Framing the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence in Speech Language Therapy) which is researching the ethical implications of AI in Speech Language Therapy. 540 Speech Language Pathologists from four German speaking countries (Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Lichtenstein) participated in an online survey investigating their perspective on the future use of Artificial Intelligence in their working contexts. Participants were asked about perceived benefits and risks of this technology. This study is a first step of involving Speech Language Pathology into the development of software using Artificial Intelligence.
